Week 1 Update – Team Rosters and Schedule Published

Hello Parents,

As a reminder, Week 1 of our 2023 Spring Volleyball League starts this Saturday, April 15th. Please review all of the information listed below.

Team Rosters: Teams have been built, https://socalelite.org/volleyball/teams/ (Search player’s name under appropriate division). *Please note if you can not find your players name in a division, please check the other divisions before contacting us. If you are a parent who volunteered to coach, please make a note of which team you are assigned to. If your child did not attend Evaluations, they were placed on a team randomly. Please be on the lookout for an email about make-up pick up for shirts and ordered items.

Schedule: The schedule for the 6 week season has been published on our website and posted on TeamSnap. If you have not done so already, please check what team your child is on and what time their session starts. You can locate this information here, https://socalelite.org/volleyball/teams/ (Search player’s name under appropriate division). Please note we are still awaiting our gym use approvals on April 29th, Week 3. This will be updated immediately once we hear back from the school district and city.

Communication/Updates: Please check your email weekly for any updates or potential location/schedule change. You can always refer to our updates page here, https://socalelite.org/volleyball/spring/updates/

Check-In/Attendance: Players will be checked in by our staff through TeamSnap’s availability feature during the duration of the League. Parents do not need to update players’ availability each Saturday. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact us.

League Scrimmages: Each week there will be an hour and a half session for players to get an opportunity to practice and play scrimmages/games. Practices will be run by our volleyball coaching staff and assisted by our Parent Volunteer Coaches. Depending on the division’s volleyball ability, there might be modifications to the games to provide the best experience (serve from anywhere on the court, coach initiated ball, height of net, etc.). Records will not be kept. Please expect for practices to be longer at the beginning of the league (weeks 1-3) as we want to make sure players have a basic understanding of how to play the game. As the league goes on, more time will be designated to play. The full duration of Week 6 (last week) will be designated to play scrimmages/games.

Throughout the season, all players will get an opportunity to learn the fundamentals of volleyball (passing, setting, hitting, and serving) and work on developing coordination and motor skills. Our goal as a recreational league is to provide a welcoming and fun environment to facilitate the best learning experience for all of our players. Please have your player wear their black SoCal Elite Volleyball t-shirt each week of the league. Outside of the t-shirt, we encourage all of our players to wear comfortable athletic apparel (bottoms and shoes). Other optional apparel would be knee pads or forearm sleeves (No jeans, skirts, and sandals/slippers). You will not need to bring your own volleyball as we will be providing them.

Preseason Update 1 – Spring League Overview

Hello Parents,

Thank you for registering for our 2023 Spring Volleyball League! We are a little over two weeks away from the Player Evaluations. Here are some quick updates before our start date.

We will have Player Evaluations on Saturday, April 1st, 2023. This gives our coaches an opportunity to observe each player’s volleyball ability and knowledge before teams are formed by Week 1 of practice/scrimmages. Teams will be formed by our coaches to provide a competitive and fun experience for all. Each division will have a designated time slot to get evaluated by our coaches. Please make sure the grade and gender of your child is correct on TeamSnap.

More information about Evaluations will be sent closer to the date with times and location. We are still awaiting gym permits/approvals. All divisions will be able to pick up their ordered items and t-shirt at Evaluations. Those who volunteered to be Evaluation Coordinators or Volunteer Coach will be contacted separately on how you will be helping out during the league.

Following Evaluations, The League will run for 6 weeks from April 15th through May 20th on Saturdays. Each week there will be an hour and a half session for players to get an opportunity to practice and play scrimmages/games. Practices will be run by our volleyball coaching staff and assisted by our Parent Volunteer Coaches.

League Scrimmages: After practice is over, it is immediately followed by teams playing scrimmages/games. Depending on the division’s volleyball ability, there might be modifications to the games to provide the best experience (serve from anywhere on the court, coach initiated ball, allow a bounce, height of net, more than three contacts, etc.). Records will not be kept. Please expect for practices to be longer at the beginning of the league (weeks 1-3) as we want to make sure players have a greater understanding of how to play the game. As the league goes on, more time will be designated to play. The full duration of Week 6 (last week) will be designated to play scrimmages/games.

Teams: Teams will be formed following Evaluations by our coaching staff to provide the best and competitive experience for all players. Teams can be Co-Ed and formed by dispersing talent as evenly as possible to ensure fairness – they are not limited by the number of boys or girls on each team. If there are enough players in your division, we will build an intermediate and beginner bracket.

Location: Like mentioned above, we are still waiting for gym permits/approval from the City and District. We currently do not know the exact locations/gyms we will use for the upcoming 2023 Spring League. Typically our volleyball leagues utilize the following locations: Irvine High School, University High School, and Northwood High School.

Schedule: Our schedule for the whole season will be sent out after teams are formed. Practice/Game times will be dependent on the number of players in a division and gym availability. Please expect your practice/game time to be played within the time slot of 11:30am-6pm on Saturdays during the 6 week league.

If you have any questions or concerns about any information explained above, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Thanks,

SoCal Elite Sports
