Week 7 – Final Week Update

Hi Parents,

This Saturday, March 7th is our last week of play for our 2023 Winter Volleyball League. All divisions’ start times and location are the same as previous weeks. You can always double check your TeamSnap Schedule. Week 7 will be focused on play to allow our players to demonstrate what they have accomplished this season. All players that attend Week 7 will receive a certificate of completion for the season.

Depending on attendance, each division will follow an open gym or small tournament format. Please note teams may be modified and our staff will be coaching each team during play. We hope to play sets best of three with rally scoring up to 25pts (win by 2 pts and capped at 30pts). There will be no serving limitations similar to previous weeks. Depending on time, we will continue rotating or modifying teams to facilitate the most competitive games.

Hi Parents,

This Saturday, Feb. 24th is our second to last week of play for the Winter Season. As noted in our last update, our season has been extended an extra week and your division’s start time/location will be the same.

If you are interested in playing in our 2023 Spring League starting in April, the current early bird discount will expire after this Sunday, February 26th at 11:59PM. Week 5 Update & Extra Week of Play

Hi Parents,

Similar to last week’s format, Week 5 will be another opportunity for each division to continue applying what they have learned from prior weeks through repetitions and play. As a reminder, please have players show up at least 10 minutes before your start time so staff and parents can help players get set up for our warm-up. Rosters, schedule, and team court locations will be posted next to the doorway each week so please refer to those when you enter the gym.

We recently received notice that we were able to secure the University High School gym for another week. SoCal Elite Sports has decided to extend our 2023 Winter Volleyball Season an extra week (Week 7).

Week 7, Extra Week

Week 4 Update

Hi Parents,

This Saturday marks Week 4 of play! Scoreboards will be set up for our games at the end of each session. Staff will be refereeing with our parent volunteers helping with rotations and coaching their teams. We will be playing rally scoring which means teams will score every rally. Teams will rotate when they sideout or after a server scores three consecutive points. Depending on the division, players will be allowed to serve up to certain depths on the court to challenge the players but also encourage as much rallying as possible. We hope to be able to fit in a best of 3 match on each court; playing to 25 points (win by 2 points; capped at 30 points if needed).

This format will be used for weeks 4-6:

  1. Dynamic Warm-Up
  2. Ball Control Exercises
  3. Hitting Lines/Serving Warm-Up
  4. GAME

As a reminder, the remainder of the season will be played at University High School and start times for each division will be the exact same:

  • 4th-5th Division: 1:00PM to 2:30PM @ University High School (Main Gym)
  • 6th-7th Division: 2:30PM to 4:00PM @ University High School (Main Gym)
  • 8th-9th Division: 4:00PM to 5:30PM @ University High School (Main Gym)

For those that have still not received their t-shirt or ordered items, please notify us through email so we can schedule a time for you to come by our office to pick them up.

This upcoming week we will be implementing serving into our practice and scrimmages. We hope to start setting up scoreboards for weeks 4 through 6 so we begin playing full games.

As a reminder, the remainder of the season will be played at University High School and start times for each division will be the exact same as Week 2:

  • 4th-5th Division: 1:00PM to 2:30PM @ University High School (Main Gym)
  • 6th-7th Division: 2:30PM to 4:00PM @ University High School (Main Gym)

You can also check the schedule for the remainder of the season on our team page, https://socalelite.org/volleyball/teams/ or through TeamSnap under “Schedules” for each week. If there are any changes to the schedule or location, we will notify all divisions immediately and update our website.

TeamSnap Check-in/Availability: We are still receiving questions about parents not being able to edit their child’s attendance. This is set up for our staff to check-in players and take attendance each week. Parents do not need to update your child’s availibility.

Preseason Update 1: A Month Out!

Hello Parents,

Thank you for registering for our 2023 Winter Volleyball League! We are about a month away from the start of our league. Here are some quick updates before our start date.

We will have Player Evaluations on Saturday, January 7th, 2023. This gives our coaches an opportunity to observe each player’s volleyball ability and knowledge before teams are formed by Week 1 of practice/scrimmages. Teams will be formed by our coaches to provide a competitive and fun experience for all. Each division will have a designated time slot to get evaluated by our coaches. Please make sure the grade and gender of your child is correct.

More information about Evaluations will be sent closer to the date with times and location. We are still awaiting gym permits/approvals. All divisions will be able to pick up their ordered items and t-shirt at Evaluations. Those who volunteered to be Evaluation Coordinators or Volunteer Coach will be contacted separately on how you will be helping out during the league.

Following Evaluations, The League will run for 6 weeks from January 21th through February 25th on Saturdays. Each week there will be an hour and a half session for players to get an opportunity to practice and play scrimmages/games. Practices will be run by our volleyball coaching staff and assisted by our Parent Volunteer Coaches.

League Scrimmages: After practice is over, it is immediately followed by teams playing scrimmages/games. Depending on the division’s volleyball ability, there might be modifications to the games to provide the best experience (serve from anywhere on the court, coach initiated ball, allow a bounce, height of net, more than three contacts, etc.). Records will not be kept. Please expect for practices to be longer at the beginning of the league (weeks 1-3) as we want to make sure players have a greater understanding of how to play the game. As the league goes on, more time will be designated to play. The full duration of Week 6 (last week) will be designated to play scrimmages/games.

Teams: Teams will be formed following Evaluations by our coaching staff to provide the best and competitive experience for all players. Teams can be Co-Ed and formed by dispersing talent as evenly as possible to ensure fairness – they are not limited by the number of boys or girls on each team. If there are enough players in your division, we will build an intermediate and beginner bracket.

Location: Like mentioned above, we are still waiting for gym permits/approval from the City and District. We currently do not know the exact locations/gyms we will use for the upcoming 2023 Winter League. Typically our volleyball leagues utilize the following locations: Irvine High School, University High School, and Northwood High School.

Schedule: Our schedule for the whole season will be sent out after teams are formed. Practice/Game times will be dependent on the number of players in a division and gym availability. Please expect your practice/game time to be played within the time slot of 12:00pm-5pm on Saturdays during the 6 week league.
